Why we built it
Sanctions screening has historically been gated behind expensive enterprise products (Refinitiv, Dow Jones, ComplyAdvantage). For most individuals and small businesses doing one-off checks, that's overkill. For everyone else, OpenSanctions has been the de-facto free option — but that's a community project with commercial licensing fees for any production use.
We built amisanctioned to be the direct-from-publisher alternative: pull every list ourselves, normalize, dedupe, and publish for free. Faster than reading 50 government PDFs, cheaper than enterprise feeds, truly current.
How it's built
Our pipeline pulls each source's official feed daily, parses it into a normalized schema, and cross-list dedupes via stable identifiers (IMO for vessels, DOB+name+nationality for persons, registration numbers for companies). All published behind a stable URL per entity.
The same team runs Strait Up Maritime, a maritime intelligence product covering sanctioned-vessel tracking at major chokepoints. amisanctioned.com is the broader consumer screening site.

- Every entity page links back to the authoritative source.
- No first-person claims. Status reflects the source list at last refresh.
- Persons without a date of birth are marked low confidence.
- Common-name disambiguation is shown when multiple matches exist.
- Sanctions context is summarized in plain English with mandatory disclaimers.
